MEDA~USA PROJECTS
2009-2011
Projects Overview
Since its founding in 1997 as a 501(c )3 organization, MEDA-USAs primary focus has been to support or initiate development initiatives in Moghamo, as well as encourage networking, support and a sense of brotherhood/sisterhood within the Moghamo community in the United States of America. MEDA-USA has since its inception supported a wide array of projects at home which include but are not limited to;
Though annual conventions in various cities in the USA, the next of which is schedule for Washington, DC on July 28-31, 2011, the goal of MEDA-USA has been to create a forum for all sons, daughters, children and friends of Moghamo domiciled in the United States of America to come together, share our culture and experiences and share with others the beauty of the Moghamo culture, and to raise funds to support ongoing or new projects at home. On those events, especially during the Friday cultural night, cultural songs, music and tales are shared. This provides a rare opportunity for kids and young Moghamoans who were born in the USA and did not have that experience of the Moghamo culture growing up.
Highlighted below are three main ongoing projects. Please feel free to make suggestions about improving existing projects, or suggest new projects by dropping a mail to the project committee. Use the mail box above to send a mail to the project committee.
This is an ongoing program spanning at least a decade and has provide over 800 scholarships to young Moghmaons
MEDA USA recognizes the native culture of Moghamoans and pays tribute to all custodians of our rich heritage. The Education and Culture Committee embodies MEDA USAs strong commitment to preserve and promote Moghamo culture, encourage and reward academic scholarship in the Moghamo youth, and to facilitate the universal appreciation of Moghamo culture.

The Guzang Public Library Project has been launched in the Guzang Village of the Batibo Sub District of Cameroon. This was done on December 29, 2006 amidst high acclaim, expectations and thanks to MEDA USA for putting the children of Moghamo high on their development agenda.
In his lunching address His Royal Highness Fon Gwan Mbanyamsig III of Guzang noted with joy the gratitude of a community full of enthusiasm to note with great appreciation that this time it is not only the sons and daughters of Guzang but the sons and daughters of Batibo sub division who have seen the need and importance of putting Batibo sub division into the global world communication age.
This project is designed to be funded and implemented in three phases. The total estimated cost of this project is in the neighborhood of 30 million francs CFA. Your suggestions, generous contributions, and the payment of your Library Development levy of $100 if you are a Moghamoan resident in the USA will go a long way toward fulfilling this dream for the children.

SAVED TO SERVE
PROUDLY SERVING MOGHAMO
Service Overview
Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It's important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop. Dr. Dorothy I. Height,
MEDA-USA has constantly been looking for ways to improve the lives of Moghamoans in the USA especially new immigrants, share the Moghamo culture with children and friends of Moghamo and above all, help improve the lives of our folkes back in Moghamo. Some of the areas we have focused on here in the USA include ensuring our members enroll in a Group Life insurance Program, participate in career development semeinars during the convention, learn about opportunities for personla grwoth, development and financial freedom as well as immigration councilling. A member's scholarship program for training in the health sciences filed courtesy NEW Horizons Medical Center in Atlanta, GA and a mentoring program that will benefit a lot of younger Moghamoans and increase the participation of the younger generation of Moghamoans in MEDA-USA affairs.
Mentoring
Group Life Insurance
MEDA-USA strongly urge its members to participate in Group Life Insurance programs offered by various chapters. The wide spread of Moghamoans all over the USA makes a single MEDA policy undesireable. If you reside in an area with no active chapter, please feel free to contact a chapter which offers a Group insurance policy through their insurance coordinators listed below;

Cultural Group Benefits is our reliable partner in providing this service.
Networking
MEDA-USA serves as a support network and a bridge not only to many back in Moghamo but to many Moghamoans residing in the USA. During annual conventions and through the many Moghamo social network forums Moghamoans meet each other and share experiences, challenges and their unique cultural perspectives on many salient issues. Hundreds of Moghamoans all over the world meet on the Moghamo facebook group , the Moghamo Yahoo egroups , on twitter, linkin and other social networks. Facebook especially has provide a unique opportunities for Moghamoans to meet each other and share their common passion. It has in the last year resulted to many serious relationships and marriage.
Moghamo community in the USA is rich in skills sets, resources and talents. We have amongst us certified nurses, medical doctors, pharmacists, IT specialists, lawyers, professors, just to mention a few. It is our hope for MEDA to be a vehicle or medium to match these talents with our youths.
Also by show casing these talents, they wills serve as role models and a form of motivation for our youths. Living in the environment that we find ourselves, it is critically important to regularly and continuously emphasize the potentials that lie in our youths. Constant positive reinforcement, is required, to prevent them from being side tracked by negative stereotype labeled on African Americans. Our youths should know America is a land of opportunities, a place where dreams can come true and the sky is the limit of what they can achieve or become. However, dreams can only be reality through hard work, persistence, patience and dedication.
Finally, when they have decided on career path, a proper mentoring leads to a successful career. It has been documented by research that people that receive mentoring in their career development have been more successful regardless of the career path. COME ONE, COME ALL AND LET'S CELEBERATE
WASHINGTON, DC
July 27-29, 2012
Message from the National President, Dr. Chris Njeh July 30, 2011.
Dear Moghamoans
Let me take this opportunity to welcome you to our Capital City Washington DC on the occasion of our annual convention. There is much excitement awaiting you. First and foremost, I would like to thank our Convention Chair Ni George Tima for taking of up the challenge of leadership in these times of uncertainties and apathy. It is the type of dedication and selflessness that we ask of every Moghamoan. Our convention has always been to fulfill three objectives- socialize, empower and raise funds for community development. This years convention is no exception, it is planned to attain those goals. This an election year and you are called upon to rise up and serve your people. Dont only speak from side line- be a true active participant.
In the past I have proposed that our constitution be amended so that MEDA better serves its people. Again as you prepare to head to DC, I will again put on the table these proposals
1-Creation of Board of directors:
It is important for the smooth transitions of different administrations, that a board of directors be created to oversea the activities of MEDA. This is especially true when long term projects are implemented that might go beyond one administration. The creation of board of director will also be look upon favorably by the USA government in terms of our charitable status.
2- Amendment of the elected officers:
Currently every leadership of MEDA is voted by the general assembly every two years. However, sometimes a disjointed executive might be elected and hence no effective advancement of MEDA happens within that administration. So it is proposed that only the President and Treasurer are elected and the president then appoints the rest of the executive depending on who he/she think he/she can work effectively with
3-MEDA-USA or MOCUDA USA:
Is the name MEDA appropriate, should we be called MOCUDA (Moghamo Cultural and Development Association) USA? Are we by our very nature an extension of our mother organization MOCUDA in Cameroon?
4-Any other suggestion that will make for a better MEDA is welcome
Once gain, thank you. It has been my pleasure serving you for the past 6 years. It has been challenging, educating, stressful, but above all rewarding.
Stay blessed
