Miss Moghamo 2006 crowned!

     2006 Miss Moghamo Diane Tezock

Miss Diane Tezock of Hillsboro NJ won the first of its kind MEDA-USA Pageant. The project, a brainchild of Mrs. Dyllis Menang nee Mbah benefitted from the technical support of veteran pageant Miss Cameroon pageant organizer Ms Diane Diaga who was also a judge at the Pageant, and logistical support from Ms Mbah Asenath Angum (herself a participant and runner-up).

Informal remarks in the sidelines smacked of satisfaction at the realization that MEDA-USA besides catering to grave national issues, is alas giving a serious look to involvement of the genXs.

Though activity was limited due to time constraints, the 10Th. Anniversary convention coming up in July 2007 will certainly see this program blossom into an even more exciting competition.

 Pageant finalists

Miss Moghamo will have as primary task;

  • to recommend to the NEC activities and programs that will interest the youth during the 10Th. Anniversary convention
  • to encourage the .com generation Moghamoans to participate in Moghamo and MEDA-USA activities and initiatives
  • to lead the book drive effort for kids books and learning aids for the Guzang Public Library
  • Congratulations Diane. We wish you a very successful and engaging reign. Miss Moghamo will have a running budget to cover her expenses. END
  • 11 year old Monique Asob Ndagha addresses convention delegates in Moghamo

    Ashop Ndagha

In a welcome address hailed as the most innovative step in the right direction, Ashop Ndagha eloquently reminded delegates of the NEDA-USA 10TH Annual convention our responsibility to our Motherland and the people that so much depend on our assistance bak home. In a 3 minute speech that elicited the longest ovation, she effortlessly observed protocol and enumerated the reasons why we are all gathered in the DC METRO area.

She is a living example of how we can still live our culture in a complicated society so far a way from home. Ashop shares the kudos with her younger brother Mukum equally eloquent in Moghamo, and above all her proud parents for making all this happen. They are a role model for our community and MEDA-USA greatly commends them.

Watch out for the tell-tale DVD and book your copies in advance. END

.com generation Moghamoans attend MEDA Convention 2006 in great numbers.

MEDA 2006 experienced a new kind of attendance – an invasion by the .com generation sometimes referred to as the genX. Yes, they came armed with an attitude, loaded pockets, and bursting in the seam with impatience at the long drawn electronic arguments and debates that lead to no where. They are distantly in touch with the Moghamo they hear and romanticize about yet strongly determined to be part of a solution to the impoverishment they hear has beset the motherland of their ancestors.

Informal discussions reveal that they are eager to see action and results and will not tolerate any system that does not deliver such. They had very strong sentiments on the new focus on HIV/AIDS in Moghamo and hope the current MEDA-USA initiatives on this subject is just a start that needs to be emphasized and amplified. They are also quick to note, a public library with access to the internet will not only give hope to many back home but will also create the much needed means of communication and networking with their peers back in Cameroon.

Some had some pretty choice words for forces working against the 2006 convention, but all agreed they had fun unprecedented in any MEDA-USA event and plan to be in Atlanta for the 10th Anniversary convention.

“… I will never miss another MEDA convention” said one. “No one ever told me it was this cool” said the other. “Don’t tell me all this cool stuff has been going on for the past ten years” said yet another. The only depressing dimension, one could tell, was the sad reality of the impoverishment back at home and the exciting realization that with such an infinitesimal portion of their savings, they could make huge difference in someone’s life in Moghamo. Second Generation Moghamoans enter the US workforce

    Graduation of Chatal Ngwa

Chantal graduates, Georgia State Dec. 17 2005

Many Moghamoans born in the US are now graduating from college and joining the US workforce. Recently, the President and his Atlanta branch converged at Georgia Tech University dome for the Graduation Ceremony of Chantal Ngwa. Such an occurrence creates a unique opportunity for MEDA-USA not only to celebrate the success of one of our own but also to ponder how as an organization we can initiate programs that attract this lot. It is incumbent upon us as a body to create a magnetic nucleus that draws people to us more so because we have a lot to loose as a people if there are structures within the system that instead repel new membership. This administration would want to proudly go on the record as one that did not leave any stone unturned in attracting the membership of this group of Moghamoans.

Above all, we encourage everyone to share news of such successes with the community. It is a necessary first step that can go very far with regards to our ambitious membership drive and the potential advantages deriving there from can never be overstated.

Chantal Ngwa an Assistant Manager with the Bank of America is presently pursuing a Masters in Business Administration. Join us as we congratulate the entire Ngwa Family. END
